Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
A fully oaked Chardonnay offering, in a rich, creamy style. It is beautifully perfumed and opulent with fine, vibrant acidity and luscious fruit. An expressive and long wine to be savoured.
Vineyard Notes
An unusually warm spring led to an early and vigorous growing season. Spring temperatures reached the high 20s throughout the Valley, with our Osoyoos estate vineyard recording a high of 29.8° C! Budbreak was the earliest on record, as much as six weeks early in some areas, and was followed by early flowering, about two weeks ahead of normal. This heat required diligence in the vineyards, especially with irrigation. The early start to the growing season and cooler than normal summer temperatures
allowed the fruit to develop flavour complexity, moderate alcohol,
balanced tannins and natural acidity. Because of the early heat,
veraison came about two weeks early for us. Unlike summers
past, forest res were not an issue for grape growers this year. In
summary, early spring heat started off an excellent growing
season which was slowed down by a cooler start to the summer
and an extended fall season; it all adds up to an excellent 2016
vintage.
Production Notes
100% Chardonnay
Winemaker Notes
Made from 63% Osoyoos and 37% Naramata estate grown fruit.
Whole clusters were pressed to preserve aromatics and rich
varietal characteristics. The wine was then racked to 228L
Burgundian barrels from the Billon and Saury cooperages,
where they were hand made and toasted. Aged on lees for 10 months with weekly gentle stirring. The Naramata fruit
underwent malolactic fermentation while the Osoyoos fruit did
not, which preserves crisp fruit and subtle aromatic
characteristics. Only 275 cases produced.
