This new addition to our portfolio offers real finesse along with pure, razor-sharp flavours and NO perceptible sugar on the palate. Finely balanced and light to medium-bodied, this minerally white wine is fresh and delivers a firm backbone of vibrant, mouth-watering acidity.
A cold Canadian winter, unusually wet spring, and dry summer yielded wines with excellent balance and distinct varietal flavours. Crops were lighter than normal, but the vintage will be remembered for unprecedented flood and drought conditions; and a persistent haze from nearby forest fires.
While not directly affecting our grape-growing areas, the haze blanketed the sun coverage, preventing the customary heat spikes and positively impacted the growing season by slowing down the grape ripening periods and flavour development.
Ripening was assisted by the rigorous leaf plucking and bunch thinning of our dogged, never-say-die vineyard crew. Ultimately, slightly lower yields and phenomenal fruit quality delivered an excellent 2017 vintage, characterized by high flavour concentration, moderate alcohol, balanced tannins, complexity and natural acidity.
With origins in ancient Greece and Egypt, the Muscat grape variety has the longest history of any vine known today. Our wine is a gathering of four distinctive Muscat varieties:
Muscat Ottonel (50%) | Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains (22%) | Yellow Muscat Giallo (22%) | Orange Muscat (6%)
The fruit was pressed after four hours of skin contact to extract delicate aromatics and then cold-fermented to preserve the grape’s signature fruit characteristics. The various lots were inoculated with a single yeast culture to further accentuate complexity and mouthfeel.
This wine is meant to be enjoyed upon release. Drink this year for best enjoyment!
